Dialing in espresso grind daily: time, weight and taste

Humidity and new beans shift grind overnight. A double-weigh protocol locks the cup without guesswork.

Dialing in espresso grind daily: time, weight and taste

Lock two numbers before taste

  • Dry dose weight (e.g. 18g).
  • Beverage weight in the cup (e.g. 36g / 1:2).

Time is a helper target (often 25–32s), not a substitute for weighing.

If the shot runs fast

Grind is too coarse or channeling exists. Do not guess — fine the grind one notch and check distribution and tamp.

If it crawls or drips

Grind is too fine or dose is heavy. Coarsen slightly and re-weigh.

Log the change

A small notebook by the grinder — date, bean, dose, yield, time — saves the next shift fifteen minutes of guessing.
