When to replace shower screens and group gaskets

Group leaks or uneven extraction are often not a “big failure” — just a cheap worn part replaced too late.

When to replace shower screens and group gaskets

Worn gasket signs

  • Water leaking around the portafilter during extraction.
  • Hard to lock — or suddenly too loose.
  • Cracks or obvious flattening on visual check.

Shower screen signs

Clogged holes after cleaning, rust, or uneven water over the puck — replace immediately.

Rough intervals

Busy café: gasket every 3–6 months, shower screen every 6–12 months depending on water and cleaning. Do not wait for total failure.

Safety

Power off and wait for pressure and heat to drop before removal. If untrained, call a technician — mistakes cost more than the part.
